Historical Files n.d., 1927-1934.

This series comprises records pertaining to the history of the American Lutheran Church's (1930-1960) Women's Missionary Federation (WMF). They appear to have been generated through the course of preparing printed materials for educational and promotional efforts and to record certain aspects of the history of the WMF and its predecessor organization in the Iowa Synod. There are printed pamphlets relating to the history of the WMF and its predecessor organizations. A bookmark created by the Women's Missionary Conference of the Evangelical Lutheran Joint Synod of Ohio and Other States, a predecessor of the WMF, outlines general information about women's missionary societies and their importance in the life of the church. There is also an undated, typewritten sheet containing brief notes about different aspects of WMF history. Except for the pamphlet titled Light on the Work of the Women's Missionary Federation of the American Lutheran Church, all items are undated. The other item in this series is a scrapbook from 1927-1934. Even though it was in possession of the WMF, it was created by the General Federation of Lutheran Women's Organizations of the Iowa Synod. It is a compilation of clippings from newspapers and church periodicals. The majority of the items in the scrapbook are pictures of Iowa Synod churches in Illinois, Washington, D.C., Texas, Iowa, Maryland, Pennsylvania, California, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Michigan, Minnesota, Idaho, Oregon, Wisconsin, and Ohio. The other material in the scrapbook includes information mainly from before the merger that created the WMF. The first half of the scrapbook contained loose newspaper clippings, originally affixed to scrapbook pages. For preservation purposes, clippings were photocopied to retain the contents information. The original pages discarded. The second half of the scrapbook, in its original condition as created, comprises clippings and 15 sepia-toned photographs, with captions, of images of Papua New Guinea and India mission fields. The photographs have come loose and are in an envelope. The microfilm version of the scrapbook comprises only second half of the scrapbook.

The ALC met as a delegate body biennially in October, the time and place of which was determined by the president and Board of Trustees. All boards and standing committees sent their reports to the president at least sixty days before the convention, so that he could have them printed and sent to the delegates twenty days before the biennial meeting.
